Abstract

Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the effects of deltamethrin on testis histology in an animal model.
Materials and methods: A total of 36 adult male Sprague-Dawley albino type rats, weighing 200-220 gram, were divided into four groups. Group
1 rats were given 15 mg/kg/day of deltamethrin, group 2 rats were given 30 mg/kg/day of deltamethrin, group 3 rats were given 60 mg/kg/day of deltamethrin, and group 4 rats (control group) were given 1 mL/kg/day of 0.9% sodium chloride for 30 days by oral gavage.
Results: Deltamethrin ingestion resulted in seminiferous tubule and spermatogenic cell damage in the testis of rats. We observed slimming especially in the seminiferous tubule atrophy and tunica albuginea. These changes were in direct correlation with the increasing dose.
Conclusion: The use of deltamethrin causes testis toxicity on rats depending on the dose.
